Nutting Better

Delivering freshly harvested microgreens to your kitchen

Nutting Better Limited operates a small, innovative horticultural farm just outside of the Whangarei area in the beautiful North Island. Their fully qualified staff will grow the best possible quality products using only pure organic material and technology.

The company specialises in most micro greens and ready to use produce for the hospitality business and exclusive retail outlets.

Lettuce & Baby Leafs

Nutting Better will grow most lettuce and baby leafs on request.

  • Organic Mixed Washed Lettuce – Ready to use in 250g bags.
  • Organic Lettuce Lollo Rosso – Forms a compact rosette of pink to violet fan-shaped leaves with a pale green base. Crisp textured leaves with ruffled tips.
  • Organic Lettuce Red Salad Bowl – A variety of loose-leaf lettuce with oak-leaf type leaves. Deep red and purple leaves are especially tender with sweet and spicy tones.
  • Organic lettuce Tango – A loose-leaf variety that looks like a curly endive. Very appealing for use in many salads, cheese and meat trays and sandwiches.
  • Organic Lettuce Green Salad Bowl – Especially tender green leaves with a sweet and succulent taste.
  • Lettuce Lollo Bionda – A type of fancy lettuce with tight curly leaves, also known as coral lettuce. Adds colour, texture and volume to salads.
  • Lettuce Cocarde – Red lettuce, oak leafed with large, upright, trumpet shaped heads.
  • Lettuce Royal Oak Leaf – Green variety of the oak leaf lettuce. The exceptional flavour will add the extra taste to any salad.
  • Lettuce Salad Trim – A mildly flavoured, succulent loose-leaf lettuce adaptable to salads of all types. Red, purple colour is very appealing.
  • Mizuna – A Japanese leafy salad green which grows as a large rosette. Its feathery light appearance adds volume to any salad. Flavour is peppery, cabbage flavour.

Fresh Herbs

Fresh, exquisite herbs that add the right element of flavour and enhance the presentation of your expertly prepared dishes. Nutting Better will grow just about any available herbs for you on demand; simply ask.

  • Lemon Balm – A light lemon flavour, it can be used in place of lemon peel in recipes. Add to a salad or blend into a vinaigrette. Great for herb butter.
  • Lemon Grass – A lemon flavoured grass mostly used in Asian dishes. Use the whole plant, chop it, mash into a paste or just add the swollen root base to flavour dishes.
  • Lovage – A herb commonly used in sweet dishes, the roots and leaves add aromatic depth to recipes. Similar in flavour to celery, it is a member of the parsley family, with delicate leaves.
  • Oregano – Think pizza, think oregano! But it can also be used in an omelette or frittata, add to herb butter or sprinkle over salad.
  • Curly Parsley – Use as a garnish for meat, fish or poultry dishes and even vegetables. Use abundantly for its health benefits.
  • Rosemary – A wonderful woody herb that adds a pine-like aroma. Goes well with chicken, lamb, pork, salmon and tuna dishes. Make a paste, mix with olive oil and use for dipping.
  • Sage Common – Sage has a soft, sweet/savoury, balsamic like flavour. Can be used for stuffing and to flavour pork or poultry dishes.

Micro Greens

Choose from the varieties below or enquire with Nutting Better as they can always grow others for you on demand.

  • Beetroot Bulls Bloods – Very attractive purplish red seedlings with large cotyledons.
  • Cress Moss Curled – Medium green seedlings on white stem with typical peppery cress taste. Ideal as a salad spiker.
  • French Potager Blend – Enjoy the sweet flavour of carrot greens which, by weight, are more nutritious than their more famous root.
  • Lettuce Hint of Red Mix – A colourful blend of red leaved lettuces with upright leaves.
  • Mizuna – Very mild, leafy green mustard with finely cut leaves.
  • Radish Rambo – Vivid purple radish for microgreens and/or sprouting. Use as an attractive garnish to complement salads, hors d’oeuvres, fish and meat dishes.
  • Organic Rocket – Excellent salad spiker with distinctive slightly bitter tangy taste.

Edible Flowers

The variety of edible flowers is vast. There are too many to list so simply enquire as needed. Depending on the season, many varieties will be in stock for your special occasion. Edible flowers add a dainty, colourful accent to salads, cheese platters, as garnishes for meat dishes and so much more.
