When giving the gift of food, you want it to be truly special, made with love and loaded with sumptuous, quality ingredients. Ludbrook House Fine Foods offers an abundance of products that can either be given on their own or packed into beautiful gift hampers for special occasions all year round.
Created to celebrate the abundance of fruit grown at Ludbrook House and in Northland, Founders Sam and Chris set up a commercial kitchen and began churning out wonderful preserves, jams, jellies and condiments. The property itself boasts a number of century-old fig and lemon trees and such products as Preserved Lemons, Dessert Figs and Fig Paste come from a heartfelt desire to pay homage to the longevity and resilience of them.
Using generations-old recipes handed down through the family, Ludbrook House Fine Foods takes immense pride in the perpetuation of traditions of the most delicious kind. Their award winning gourmet foods continue to attract attention all over the country.
Gourmet Preserves
Ludbrook House’s gourmet preserves are homemade from traditional recipes.
- Dessert Figs – Winners of the Cuisine Artisan Awards 2009. Whole figs are slow poached with fresh ginger and lemon slices in a sugar and vinegar syrup.
- Fig Paste – Dense and moist with a hint of lemon and ginger.
- Poached Quinces – Individually selected quinces, sliced and slow poached in sugar syrup with cinnamon and bay leaves.
- Quince Paste – Handpicked quinces are pureed and very slowly cooked with sugar and lemon juice to produce this traditional quince paste.

A true pantry necessity, their intense natural flavour adds depth to sauces, salads, desserts, meat and fish dishes, and drinks.

Jellies & Jams
Homemade from traditional recipes using fruits gathered locally in the Bay of Islands.
- Fig Conserve – Black mission figs are combined with lemon and preserved ginger to make a delicious chunky fig conserve.
- Quince Jelly – Made from sun ripened quince, lemon and sugar. Makes a wonderful glaze for cakes and tarts.
- Orange & Lime Jelly – The juice of oranges and limes is combined with sugar and thin strips of peel.
- Orange Confit – Chunks of navel oranges are socked overnight then cooked with cardamom, sugar and brandy.
- Kiwifruit Marmalade – Chunks of golden kiwifruit with orange and lemon juice, rinds and sugar.
- Lemon Jelly – Handpicked Meyer lemons are combined with sugar to produce this divine, citrusy jelly.
- Capsicum & Chilli Pepper Jelly – This sweet/savoury hot jelly is made with capsicums, chilli, vinegar, sugar and natural pectin.
- Tamarillo & Chilli Jelly – A gourmet savoury and mildly hot jelly made from tamarillos, chilli, lemons, sugar and natural pectin.
- Red Grape Jelly – A luscious jelly made from red grape varieties handpicked in the Far North and blended with fresh herbs, spices, apples and lemons.
- Lime Marmalade - A delicate, not too sweet marmalade made from Ludbrook House home-grown limes and kaffir limes.
Condiments
Stunning preserved citrus and piquant pickles are jam-packed with flavour. They go beautifully with a range of fish, chicken and vegetable dishes, with curries, rice and couscous or served with cheeses.
- Preserved Lemons – Flavoured with peppercorns, bay leaves and cinnamon sticks.
- Pickled Limes - Award-winning, home-grown limes pickled in salt and flavoured oil for a fresh, tangy taste delight.
- Lime Chutney - Home-grown limes are transformed into a piquant and delicious chutney.
- Orange Pickle – Fresh Kerikeri oranges are transformed into a modern gourmet pickle.
- Spicy Plum Sauce – Home-grown plums are transformed into a rich and spicy sauce that can be used as a dipping sauce or served with duck or beef casseroles.
- Tamarillo Chutney – This iconic New Zealand fruit transforms into delicious tamarillo chutney.

Panforte
A delicious Italian ‘hard cake’ adapted to a New Zealand style. Homemade with dried fruit and nuts bound together with manuka honey and spices.
- Chocolate Panforte – Dried fruit, almonds and hazelnuts, mixed with chocolate, manuka honey, flour and spices.
- Tuscan Panforte – Dried fruit, almonds, pecans, manuka honey, flour, spices and lemon.
Christmas Cakes
Homemade all year on request for weddings and other special occasions they are available in three sizes: 200mm round or square, 145mm round or square, 100mm round.
- Christmas Cornucopia Fruit Cake – Moist fruit cake laced with chocolate chunks and sherry. Decorated with pecan nuts and cherries and a quince jelly glaze.
- Christmas Traditional Fruit Cake with Rum – Packed with honey and dried fruit and laced with rum. Decorated with pecan nuts and cherries and a quince jelly glaze.
