A small artisan producer, Grinning Gecko Cheese Co sources certified organic milk from a local farm that harvests top quality milk from a herd of Ayrshire cows. The cheese is made the very same day the milk is produced and by sourcing milk from just one herd Grinning Gecko Cheese Co has total control over quality from start to finish.
The fresh organic milk is batch pasteurised, the gentlest method, which pays dividends in the quality of the cheese. Non-animal rennet is used and all of the cheeses are handmade and aged on site.
Grinning Gecko cheeses are a true labour of love for owners James and Catherine McNamara who gave up their day jobs to embark on a venture that would allow them to combine their love of nature with their passion for cheese.
Today, their products have won multiple awards and the dream continues on a daily basis.

Award winning camembert made using traditional methods. When ripe, it has a distinct earthy aroma and smooth creamy paste.

Another award winner this is fresh cheese that you cook. Halloumi is from the same family as mozzarella but holds its shape when cooked. Less salty and more flavoursome than most other brands and when cooked, has a soft creamy centre encased in a golden crust.
- Hātea (Whero) and (Mā)
A semi-hard cheese with a crumbly texture, a hint of butterscotch and a distinctive bitter citrus tang. Based on the popular English cheese, Red Leicester. Aged for a minimum of five months. Available in two types: Whero (white) and Mā (red).
A semi-hard Italian-style cheese made from whole milk which gives it a creamy mouth feel. Aromatic in flavour with subtle fruity notes and a long finish.
A fresh cheese from Germany that is a cross between yoghurt and fromage frais. Quark is the German word for ‘curd’. Use in cooking, baking and dips and serve with fruit or as an alternative to thick Greek yoghurt or sour cream. Thick and velvety smooth.
