On returning from many years away working and travelling, founder Derrick Barber's love of the land drew him into beekeeping, a hobby that has since become an all-consuming passion. A passion to find success in a sustainable business that gives back to local communities, and preserves the beauty of New Zealand's natural environment, which in turn produces delicious, world-class, premium honey.
New Zealand Honey Traders is focussed on producing a range of raw New Zealand honeys including Manuka of varying grades and delicious affordable everyday table honeys. We own and manage our hives, allowing us to ensure quality care of our bees and traceability of the honey back to its origin. Whilst not organic certified, we incorporate a number of organic principles in our beekeeping, including Varroa Mite treatments and ensuring we leave our bees with plenty of honey to enjoy over winter.
NZHT HQ is located in the Hokianga. This subtropical far north region of New Zealand is steeped in history and culture. Derrick and his wife Angela manage the day-to-day running of the business. Derrick began his beekeeping journey with a grand total of 10 hives! Today NZHT is a real family affair, operating close to 1,500 hives with Derrick overseeing each and every one, alongside his mum and dad who have come out of retirement to help in the business. Ange looks after the admin, marketing, product dispatch, general enquiries and accounts.

Our honey is produced with minimal processing to retain its rich taste, and superior nutritional and anti-bacterial properties. It is raw and unblended, and not subjected to ultra filtering.

Our honey is quality assured at all steps from production. We test our honey to the highest standards available in accordance with Professor Peter C Molan (MBE) recommendations and MPI requirements.
A range of sizes to suit
From small 40g sizes, perfect for weddings favours and corporate events, through to 25kg pails for refilleries and 300kg drums for larger buyers, we have the size to suit your requirements and are happy to work with you to brand your own product.

No matter the size, our honey is never packaged in plastic! Only glass and food-grade metal.
